Aeronautical mechanic, entrepreneur robbed on rue Hadfield – French Guiana newsroom
Police have arrested an 18-year-old man from Albouystown, Georgetown, in connection with the armed robbery of a 30-year-old plane mechanic and a 54-year-old business executive that happened on Monday evening at Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
Police headquarters reported that the two bandits stole an iPhone 7 worth $65,000 and a Samsung Galaxy A2 cell phone worth $42,000 from the men.
Police said the two victims knew each other and at around 8.50pm the mechanic visited his girlfriend’s residence in Hadfield Street and parked his car on the street.
As he conversed with his girlfriend inside the car, he saw the business manager driving along Hadfield Street on his motorbike; the manager stopped in front of the house when he noticed that the two suspects parked their motorcycles some distance away.
The bandits then approached the two victims on foot; it is alleged that the armed suspect pointed a handgun and pulled up the manager’s cell phone during which the mechanic got out of his car to intervene.
However, the gun-toting bandit then pointed the gun at him and pushed him to the ground while his accomplice relieved him of his mobile phone.
The suspects then ran to their motorbike and fled.
The mechanic tracked his phone to a house in James Street, Albouystown, where the scene was searched by police but the phone was not found.
However, an 18-year-old man from said address has been arrested and is in custody assisting with investigations.
